An Amish Buggy – Is it Ordinary or Extraordinary
I see Amish buggies frequently on the roadways where we live. We were behind this Amish buggy on our way home from Erie, PA the other day.
Seeing an Amish buggy always reminds me of Leo and the day that he arrived in America. Leo was our first Brazilian exchange student. He arrived at the airport in Jamestown, NY on August 18, 2002. We were traveling along Route 69 in Sugar Grove, PA on our way home from the airport. As we turned right onto Route 957, an Amish buggy was turning right onto Route 69 from Route 957. This was the very first time Leo had seen an Amish buggy. As Leo turned his body around to watch the Amish buggy, he asked in astonishment “What is THAT?” We explained briefly to Leo that what he saw was an Amish family’s mode of transportation. I learned from this exchange that what I consider ordinary can be viewed as extraordinary to another person.
