A Walk Around the Lake and a Family Dinner

Bob’s sister and her husband are visiting this week. They are staying in the village of Lakewood, which is located along the southern banks of Chautauqua Lake in Western New York. Bob, my stepdaughter Stacey and I visited Cynthia and Larry at their vacation home the evening of Tuesday, May 19th.

Here is a photograph of Cynthia and Larry’s vacation home.

When we arrived at their home, Cynthia was the only one home. Larry had gone on a walk alongside the lake. Larry returned home from his walk about 30 minutes after our arrival. The five of us visited for about 30 minutes. Then Stacey and I went on a walk ourselves, alongside the lake. Here are a few of the sights that we saw during our walk.

I particularly like this stone stairway!

OH, and another sight that we saw was the Guardian of the Lake, which I posted earlier.

Before returning to Cynthia and Larry’s home, Stacey and I admired the architecture of an abandoned church, located at 29 Ohio Avenue.

In searching the Internet I gleaned the following information pertaining to this church. This church was erected in 1876. Since its erection the church served as a Protestant house of worship (Union Chapel), a Christian Science meeting place, a firemen’s hall, Chamber of Commerce, an electric light station and, most recently, as a Catholic church (Sacred Heart Church). The church has been abandoned for many years. Here are a few more photographs of the church.

There is what appears to be a courtyard behind this building.

Have you ever seen a chimney with twin openings like this at its base?

While Stacey and I walked alongside the lake, Bob chatted with Cynthia and Larry while they prepared dinner. Larry was just putting the steak on the grill when Stacey and I returned from our walk. The five of us enjoyed a delicious dinner, sitting on the patio in the back yard. Here’s a photograph of the back yard patio that I took when Bob, Stacey and I first arrived.

Oh, and yes, Bob celebrated his 50th birthday one more time. For dessert Cynthia and Larry had purchased a German chocolate cake, which was topped by a “50” candle that Bob had to blow out.

Another bunch of great photos! I may have to take a walk around the lake myself. I need to do more of what you all do…that is, start enjoying that stuff that's in our own backyard.

Some wonderful shots of the homes around the lake and nice to hear a little bit about some of the buildings.
