We returned home late this afternoon from an extended Memorial Day weekend vacation. Over the next several days I will share with you what we saw and what we did while on our vacation.
On Thursday, May 21, we drove from the northwestern corner of Pennsylvania to its southeastern corner. We got an early start to the day. It was not yet 6:30AM when we departed Warren en route our hotel in Concordville, a town which is less than 30 miles west of Philadelphia.
While on our way to Concordville, we stopped briefly along Rt. 322 (General Potter Highway) to take a picture of a huge chrome horse that had caught my attention. The horse sits on the grounds of Yearick’s Iron Horse Ranch, which I looked up on the Internet. It appears that Yearick’s provides storage services, perhaps for motorcycles? There is a Harley Davidson shop on the grounds.
We made one other photo stop a little further along Rt. 322E at the Lewistown Narrows, a boat launch area for the Juanita River. Doesn’t the river look peaceful, tranquil?
Our hotel room is large. Furnishings include a king-size bed, two nightstands, a chair with an ottoman and a side table, color TV sitting atop a 3-drawer dresser, a desk and chair, microwave and refrigerator.
We relaxed in our hotel room until approximately 3:45PM, when we left for dinner. We ate dinner at the Outback Restaurant. The nearest Outback Restaurant is 1 1/2 hours from where we live, so we do not eat often at the Outback. Therefore, it is a treat for us to eat dinner at the Outback.
Before returning to our room after dinner, we walked around the pond in front of our hotel. The area surrounding the pond is beautifully landscaped. On the side of the pond closest to the hotel is a gazebo and a water garden with water that falls in steps down to the pond. The pond itself contains several small fountains, and there is a pavilion on one side of the pond that extends into the pond. The pond is home to several geese and ducks. We saw a few baby geese.
I will write about our visit to Longwood Gardens in my next blog post.
