Extended Memorial Day Weekend Vacation – Day 1 of 5

We returned home late this afternoon from an extended Memorial Day weekend vacation. Over the next several days I will share with you what we saw and what we did while on our vacation.

On Thursday, May 21, we drove from the northwestern corner of Pennsylvania to its southeastern corner. We got an early start to the day. It was not yet 6:30AM when we departed Warren en route our hotel in Concordville, a town which is less than 30 miles west of Philadelphia.

While on our way to Concordville, we stopped briefly along Rt. 322 (General Potter Highway) to take a picture of a huge chrome horse that had caught my attention. The horse sits on the grounds of Yearick’s Iron Horse Ranch, which I looked up on the Internet. It appears that Yearick’s provides storage services, perhaps for motorcycles? There is a Harley Davidson shop on the grounds.

We made one other photo stop a little further along Rt. 322E at the Lewistown Narrows, a boat launch area for the Juanita River. Doesn’t the river look peaceful, tranquil?

We arrived at the Best Western Concordville Hotel and Conference Center in Concordville at approximately 1:15PM.

The Best Western Hotel is set back from the road with a pond and trees. The hotel is surrounded by busy highways (Routes 322 and 1); however, when on the hotel grounds it feels like you are in the country.

Our hotel room is large. Furnishings include a king-size bed, two nightstands, a chair with an ottoman and a side table, color TV sitting atop a 3-drawer dresser, a desk and chair, microwave and refrigerator.

Our bathroom is generously sized too.

This is the view from our hotel window.

We relaxed in our hotel room until approximately 3:45PM, when we left for dinner. We ate dinner at the Outback Restaurant. The nearest Outback Restaurant is 1 1/2 hours from where we live, so we do not eat often at the Outback. Therefore, it is a treat for us to eat dinner at the Outback.

Before returning to our room after dinner, we walked around the pond in front of our hotel. The area surrounding the pond is beautifully landscaped. On the side of the pond closest to the hotel is a gazebo and a water garden with water that falls in steps down to the pond. The pond itself contains several small fountains, and there is a pavilion on one side of the pond that extends into the pond. The pond is home to several geese and ducks. We saw a few baby geese.

I will write about our visit to Longwood Gardens in my next blog post.

You always have the coolest mini-vacations! Where did you ever find this Hotel!? How do you decide where you will stay!? I'm in awe of your natural ability to see the “little” things in life and share them with the world. I really enjoy your blog for that very reason. 🙂

Thank you Skye! I found this hotel on the Internet. When I plan a vacation I check out various hotels on the Internet, looking at price, location, and most importantly hotel reviews. This hotel had positive reviews and wasn't priced too high. The location was excellent. We almost didn't get in this hotel. I actually reserved the last room! The hotel was quite busy this past weekend .. soccer kids and their families and a couple weddings. BTW it is the little things that make life interesting 🙂
