The Honor System

Bob and I picked blueberries yesterday evening. I guess we both were hungry for a bowl of cereal with blueberries and milk. We each had a bowl of cereal, prepared as described, soon after returning home from picking berries.

Blueberries, yum yum, that is cool that the farmer trusts folks. Rare treat in this day and age.

How wonderful, I occasionally see similar signs in rural areas. Once when we stayed at a place up in Canada a few years ago, at a lodge with several cabins in the middle of nowhere, the owner was on his own as his wife was visiting family during our stay. The last morning we were there he had arranged to go on a fishing trip, gave us the keys to the main lodge and said, help yourself to breakfast and said, “Just put the keys on the desk before you leave.” We were totally overwhelmed by his generosity, this as we saw his seaplane take off from the lake. I enjoyed your photo and I bet those blueberries were delicious.

Wow! People still do that? That really surprises me. I bet the blueberries were yummy.
