A Sparkling Addition to our Outdoor Decorations

ICICLES

Winter’s icy fingers grip
the gutters numb unsmiling lip
bit by bit the icy spikes slip
as sunshine shrinks them drip by drip

As an aside …Whenever I see icicles on our front porch it reminds me of one of our exchange students who grabbed hold of an icicle with his bare hand. He threw down the icicle, saying it was “hot”. The exchange student was from Brazil and had never experienced winter weather.

Wow, Jack Frost certainly paid you a visit. Great Photo and I loved the poem. We supposed to be getting snow tonight but only about 2 inches. That's a fun story about your exchange students. We had several German exchange students several years ago when we lived in California. Wonderful experience.

That is something I will never experience at home, however, I have enjoyed icicles in mountain resorts during the winter. You captured a very intriguing scene that I could find a seat and gaze at for a while (with hot coffee or hot buttered rum)!

I giggled at your aside! I've experienced a similar instance with an exchange student here! Lovely photo – and I love your wind chimes too!

Denise – We are supposed to get more snow, possibly 3-5 inches, by tomorrow afternoon. Bob and I are getting antsy. We want to begin our “Get out of the Cold” vacation. We have two more loose ends to tie up, though, before we can leave. We've hosted 5 exchange students — one girl from Germany, two boys from Brazil, one girl from Denmark and a boy from South Korea. I agree that hosting exchange students is a wonderful experience.Carolyn and Ciss B – thank you 🙂

Brrr! That is a beautiful picture! I can remember having iciles on our house once when I was about 8 years old. School was closed for 3 days and I was in heaven:)

I am that student right now, Linda! I've never seen an icicle and have not touched one! Your photograph is amazing! I was rushing out of the room to show my husband (teehee). I wish I can experience (and photograph one someday. Beautiful photo. The chime made for a wonderful foreground.

Oh they do look pretty, to think out here people spend money to buy special icicle lights to hang from the gutters! Must be very cold at your house on the outside.
