Mama and Papa Swan

A river runs through my hometown of Warren, PA. This past Thursday I went with my friend, Valerie, to the banks of the Allegheny River. Last year, Valerie and Michael drove by this particular part of the river and discovered swans. Bob says the swans have lived along this part of the river for many years. It was the first time I saw the swans.

This is Mama Swan.

Mama Swan was sitting on a nest on an island in the river. I hope to capture pictures of the new family someday soon!

This is Papa Swan.

Papa Swan was protective of mama swan. He stayed near the nest while I was photographing along the river bank. Isn’t he handsome with his feathers raised? I LOVE the reflection too!

I hope you were at a safe distance! My children do rowing (as in Oxford and Cambridge boat race rowing) on the canal here, and the big fear of even the biggest, strongest rowers is the swans. They can attack the boats if they feel threatened.Looking at these beautiful serene shots tho it's hard to believe they can be so fierce.

Hi Linda, beautiful photos and the reflection is amazing! what a joy to find swans nesting and to able to watch! last year we were lucky: some swans built a nest right next to a very busy path (I have a photo here) and It was fantastic cycling past everyday and stopping to see what was going on. It became a social point in the neighbourhood, loads of people were awaiting the new arrivals. Unfortunately from the 6 eggs just one hatched, which was sad. But the cygnet was oh-so-adorable! I spent some happy hours last year watching the swans. Never thought of myself as a bird-watcher before. Anyway, hope you are lucky to see the cygnets when they are really fluffy and please keep us posted 🙂

I found you because of a comment you made on Ana's blog. Nice shots on these Swans. I love the clear reflection on the Papa Swan, not to mention the detail and color overall. Nice work. I'm looking forward to seeing the Swan family photos.

Nice! A friend here in Virginia had the luck of having a black swan take up residency on their farm in the pond. No mate though and he looks so lonely in the pond all by himself.DiThe BLue Ridge Gal

Beautiful shots of the swans.Like others I like the reflection in the second shot and I also like the contrast with the darker background.
