Earthquake!
A 5.0 magnitude earthquake has been confirmed by Channel 4 news in Buffalo, NY.
According to Channel 4 news, “a 5.0 magnitude earthquake centered at the Ontario-Quebec Border Region, as defined by the United States Geological Survey, struck the Western New York region this afternoon.
“The earthquake seemed to last for about 30 seconds in Ottawa and rattled downtown buildings, homes in west-end Ottawa and government offices across the Ottawa River in Gatineau, Que.
“The Internet is abuzz with people saying they felt the earth rumble around 1:45pm EST.
;”The News 4 newsroom has received reports from as far as Jamestown of a tremor that lasted from 30 to 45 seconds in most cases.
“Our sisters stations in Indianapolis, Grand Rapids and Springfield, MA have received calls in their newsroom about the quake also.”
I felt the earth shake too!
I was sitting at my desk on a chair, which has wheels. I heard some kind of a sound like the air conditioner coming on and at the same time my chair started to move/roll. I remember feeling startled at the time. It felt like someone had taken hold of my chair and shook it. The movement lasted for a few seconds. I didn’t think anything of the movement after it stopped. I just kind of shrugged my shoulders … weird is all I thought. A few minutes later I got on Facebook to see if I had any messages. I saw the Warren Times Observer newspaper status announcing breaking news, asking if anyone felt a tremor in Warren to call the newsroom. I called the newsroom.

People in Central Ohio are saying they felt the quake also. I was sleeping and didn't feel a thing. Just a little heat advisory here today
I heard about this earthquake on TV…. Weird that you felt it, Linda…. I'm sure that is very startling, even if you didn't know what it was at first….Call it “too close for comfort”… Right?????Hugs,Betsy
Out here on my vacation I've been totally out of touch. I hope everybody is okay. Loved your pics of Hawaii. I'm headed home tomorrow so I'll be able to get back and visit more often.
Yep. I was in the computer lab at JCC and missed it. This darn class! I'm missing EVERYTHING.
I didn't feel it here, but they did in Grand Rapids just thirty miles from us here along the lakeshore. The buildings swayed!
Linda – Since my family's SoCal roots go back over 100 years, I'm going to let you in on the proper terminology for a summer quake: “shake and bake” as in “We had some shake and bake today”. I'm amazed at how cool and calm you seemed about it all. You've had an exciting month… Ellen
Glad you are safe.
Earthquakes are a little freaky. During our days in California I felt many of them. Can still remember the feeling of different effects, from the rolling to the downright shaking. An English Girl Rambles
Something similar happened in Chennai, India as well. It was the night before I started to US.I clearly felt the tremor which was a result of earth quake somewhere in Indonesia I guess. But no one else felt it.It was there in news the next day..Ram
That is amazing. I felt a number of earthquakes in S. Cali but I have never felt one here thank goodness:)
I had not heard….but we felt tremors here two or three years ago…maybe more. It was just as I woke up…then felt aftershocks a while later when I was outside. They felt almost weirder than the original.
