Genesee Country Village and Museum – #10

This post continues with details and photographs from our visit in June to the Genesee Country Village and Museum.

In today’s blog post we will continue our exploration of the Pioneer Settlement portion of the Historic Village.

The Campbell House is completely finished on the exterior. The inside, however, is still at an early stage of rebuilding. This house will not be a finished, furnished building like the others in the Historic Village. It will be an exhibit of early 19th century construction.

This item was inside the Campbell House. Does anyone have any idea what this thing is and what it was used for?

Oh Linda, its like I was right there with you.The pictures really were alive. I admired how people did things in the old days. When people took pride in there work.I think we don't appreciate things like we should anymore. Sorry I've been gone for so long.My computer died.:( But I'm back now!:)

Hi Linda, I love the pioneer village… It may be my favorite overall–but all of this village is GREAT.Neat little school and I love seeing the barn and blacksmith shop…Don't know what that 'thing' is!!!!! They used to do so much with wood –so maybe this is someone's art work…????Hugs,Betsy

For some reason I feel I should know what the 'thing' is, but I can't put my finger on it. I'll bet my Dad could tell you, though. We have many similar buildings down here in Cades Cove, but your school house is more modern than any I've seen in the Smokies. Thanks for taking us through the Pioneer Village.

What a great place. Imagine living in those days! Your pics are fabulous as usual. I too would like to know what is the head the man's carving?

Linda, I am wondering if that last picture is a stitching pony of some kind…I bet it is for working with leather..well, I am wrong. I just ask Roger…he said it is a common tool. You raise that head up and put a piece of wood under it and press down with the foot lever to hold it while you use a draw knife on the wood.
