First Significant Snowfall of 2011
In December we received lots of snow from two lake effect snow storms. I read in today’s newspaper that “58.5 inches of snow fell”. I guess we broke a record because the newspaper article reported that “the previous record stood at a mere 34 inches”.
In late December warmer temperatures produced a wonderful meltdown. A lot of the snow from those two lake effect snow storms melted. I even saw green grass for the first time since early December!
Last night the snow returned. At the time that I am preparing this blog post, it is still snowing. We didn’t get a lot of snow, just enough to give the ground a fresh white cover.

We don't have any snow down here. It all melted during the same time as your melt down and has not returned (granted it was less than an inch to begin with…it wouldn't have taken much to melt it!). I certainly do not miss the snow, but my kids sure do!
Very beautiful… Its winter here in India too, the temperature in Mumbai is about 20 degree celcius…Have a nice day:)
Beautiful Snow picture, Linda… You all really do get LOTS of snow, don't you??? We actually have some snow on the ground today also (about 1/2 an inch)… It is pretty –but probably won't stay long. We are above freezing right now.Hugs,Betsy
We had some snow today, although it barely covered the ground. It looks as if you have a very pretty snowfall as of now — I hope you don't get too much more at one time.
We've been warned to expect some but so far nothing much here in the valley but lots in the mountains. Please excuse my ignorance Linda but what does “lake effect” mean? I've never heard that term before.
Beautiful image… stay warm!
Beautiful photo. We were in PA over Christmas and had no snow where we were, but had to delay returning to Williamsburg because of more than 10 inches here. That was some kind of record too. Guess it doesn't sound like much next to your 58 though.Darryl and Ruth : )
We haven't had snow for several days, but it's so darned cold that the old stuff just won't melt. 58″ is one heck of a lot of snow for that altitude.
Wow, Linda you did get a lot of snow. It seems to miss us so far. But they are calling for some tonight into tomorrow. I am so ready for spring and winter just started.
Stunnin snow image. Love the contrast with the white. We have snow and lots . I havent seen snow like this in a while.Stay warm.
That's a lot of snow for PA, Linda! It is snowing hard here in the Rocky Mountains, too. I skied in it this AM.
