Easter Vacation 2011
Bob and I extended the Easter holiday and went on vacation to Virginia Beach, Virginia. We spent 1 night in Winchester, Virginia; 4 nights in Virginia Beach; and 1 night in Bedford, Pennsylvania.
The highlights of our vacation included:
– a brief stop in Tappahannock, Virginia;
– soaking up the sun and warmth on the oceanfront while in Virginia Beach, Virginia;
– visiting the Norfolk Botanical Garden with friends;
– spending Easter Day with friends;
– driving over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel; and
– visiting Assateague Island, Virginia, on our way back home.
Here is a slideshow with photographs of the highlights of our vacation.
I want to mention one other vacation highlight, one not so pleasant. En route Virginia Beach we spent one night at the Best Western Lee-Jackson Inn in Winchester, Virginia. The AC receptacles in our room were worn to the point that anything plugged into them would simply fall out, without even a nudge. That night my husband emailed Best Western International in regards these AC receptacles, stating that they might be considered a hazard in some locations. The next morning, after showering, I plug in the hotel’s hair dryer …

The hairdryer shorted out when I attempted to blow dry my hair.

That is appalling! You were lucky there wasn't a more serious outcome.I'm glad you got a refund – I think you should have had some compensation, too.
The hair dryer story sounds scary. There could have been a fire in your room. Sounds like great stops. I love Assateague and the Bay Bridge Tunnel is cool to ride on. I know you are having or had a lot of fun!
That motel is in for some serious trouble if word of the electrical system ever gets to the proper authorities: inspections@ci.winchester.va.us Receptacles like those are a fire just waiting to happen.
Good for you for taking the next step. I would have done the same thing. I'm so glad you did not get hurt. That really could have been disasterous beyond scary.BlessYourHearts
Your vacation sounded wonderful. Thank goodness you weren't injured in the hair dryer incident and that you got your money back!
I really enjoyed the photos from the botanical gardens….It seems to me the Best Westerns are starting to be a bit run down…we used to always stay in them and felt like we were in a nice hotel, but we stayed in a couple or three the past year or two and while they weren't real bad, they just weren't what they used to be.
Alarming tale! These sockets look very worn, even without the damage from the shorting.The power of the camera – that obviously made the hotel employee take you seriously.
Wow! I am so glad you are ok. That could have been so bad. Glad you got your money back!!
Glad you weren't hurt and am very glad you told the manager about this. Otherwise who knows what might have happened to the next guest. It's been lovely looking through all your photos, as many of the places you photographed I am very familiar with. I always miss the roses in full bloom though. You got some real beauties at the garden. It was like walking down memory lane. Thanks for the tour Linda.
