A Scare

Our cat Patches
Patches gave us a scare last evening. She slipped outside unnoticed, when either Bob or I went out the door.
We didn’t realize Patches was missing until after 10:00 PM. Bob was ordering a new Discover card (his current card is cracked). After Bob ordered his new card, one with an eagle on it, he mentioned that I could order a new card, one with kittens on it, if desired. That’s when I wondered aloud “Where is Patches?”.
We looked all over the house, calling her name. We looked in her usual napping places. We didn’t see her. I went outside and called “here kitty, kitty, kitty”. Patches didn’t answer our calls. I know only a few minutes passed; it felt longer.
All of a sudden, there she was! Patches appeared on our front porch, peering through the window of the storm door. I opened the door and scooped her up in my arms, hugging and kissing her. I brought her into the house and set her down on the floor. As soon as I set Patches down on the floor, all hell broke loose! Patches became crazed, running all through the house and jumping up and down off the furniture. It took some time before she settled down. I wonder if Patches’ behavior was her way of telling us what a great big adventure she had in the big, dark world?
We figure Patches spent about 2 hours outside. We’re so happy that Patches didn’t wander off, that no one took her, and that she came to no harm.

So glad she is safe and sound now, maybe she found some cat nipt while outside :). I have been picking fresh cat nip for my kitties and they love it.
I am so glad she is OK. I know how sacry that can be!
Luckily, I had a cat (Sambuca) who was afraid to go outdoors and never ventured near the door. Good thing because i would have worried about her just as you did for Patches. Glad there was a happy (if wild) homecoming.
You did have a scare, glad all turned out okay and she came home safe and sound. Wouldn't it be interesting if you put a camera on her to find out where she went, or maybe not 😉
Oh My—that was a close call. Glad Patches came back home. We almost lost our cocker spaniel once when she got off of the leash… Scared me to death…You'll have to watch Patches closely from now on –since she knows about being out there in this big ole world!!!Have a great weekend.Hugs,Betsy
I am glad that she showed up so quickly after you realized she was missing.
I'm so glad she's home and okay! How scary for you guys… she's soooo cute!
Linda, I am happy that Patches is OK and she didn't run off. Cute photo. Have a great weekend, Linda!
She is far too cute to roam around late at night. Glad you found her.Darryl and Ruth : )
Glad patches is safe and you can smile.
I'm so glad that Patches is safe. When Pavel was young the exact thing happened and after that it became difficult to restrain him for the next 10 yrs. In the few seconds it took to open the door and turn the meat on the bbq Pavel would awaken from a deep sleep forty feet away and be gone in a flash totally unseen. Then we'd both be out there like a shot calling his name and finally spot him under the bushes and each time we tried to grab him, he'd be off again, running away from us.He kept that routine going for years. Now that Pavel is going on 16 he's afraid of the outdoors. He now merely cautiously peeks and sniffs then goes back to his warm bed much to our relief. In a way it's sad but we lost two cats to cars and that trauma stays with you forever. When we got Pavel we were determined that wouldn't happen again.
I'm glad you found Patches, but don't you wish she could tell you about her adventure?
Linda, I am so happy that she came home safe and sound-especially given she was out after dark.
Yep, she owns you both! What you need now is two or three more to own your heart!
