A Day Spent with Cynthia

Bob’s sister, Cynthia, was in town last week.  Cynthia spent the past week doing genealogy research and meeting up with some family members and a few friends.

Cynthia arrived in town on Sunday, November 4, and did not tell Bob and I that she was coming to town.  That evening  Bob and I went to Perkins Restaurant for dinner.  Of all people to run into at Perkins, we ran into Cynthia.  We would not expect to run into Cynthia anywhere in our hometown, as she lives about a 12-hour drive away from us.  Cynthia was on her way to our house to surprise us, when she spotted us on the highway.  Cynthia turned around and followed us to Perkins Restaurant.   Bob noticed that someone was following us.  He became a little concerned when the person who was following us pulled into the restaurant parking lot and began flashing their bright beams at him.  Bob pulled into a parking spot.  The car following us pulled up behind us.  Bob and I were both very surprised to see Cynthia behind the wheel.  We invited Cynthia to join us for dinner.   The next time we saw Cynthia was almost a week later.

On Saturday Bob and I spent part of the morning and afternoon with Cynthia. Our day began at the Horton House Bed & Breakfast, Cynthia’s lodging for the week.  Craig Scalise (one of the owners of the Horton House) and Cynthia gave us a tour of the Inn.

According to its website, the Isaac Horton family built this completely wooden (7,500 square feet) home in the late 1800’s. During the 1970’s upon retiring from Blair Corporation, N. Anthony (Tony) Scalise purchased the home as a retirement project. Due to ill health, the project was not completed. Anthony passed away in 1995. His wife, Silvia and their sons (Antonio & Craig), wanting to share this magnificent home, decided to open the Horton House Bed & Breakfast Inn. Today, the Scalise Family continue to reside in and operate the Horton House as the finest in overnight accommodations and breakfast.

The Horton House is a beautiful mansion.  Bob’s sister enjoyed her 1-week stay there very much.  I am certain that you would too.  So, if you are ever in the Warren area and looking for a place to stay, be sure and check out the Horton House Bed & Breakfast.

Our Saturday continued at Seneca Allegany Casino in Salamanca, New York, where Cynthia treated us to lunch. After lunch Cynthia doubled her money playing a slot machine.

Our day together ended taking in the view of Warren from the lofty vantage point of Washington Park.

What a shock to have Cynthia drive up behind you that day!!!! Was she there on business or just a vacation? Glad you got to spend some time with her. That B&B is gorgeous… Looks like alot of history there.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

Cynthia is the genealogist in our family, Betsy. She was in Warren to do genealogy research.

That’s a gorgeous place Linda, loved all the photos and a nice one of Bob with his sister. I can just imagine how surprised you were to see her roll up behind you.
