Michigan Vacation – Day 1 of 6
Day 1 of our 6-day Michigan vacation began on Wednesday, August 7th.
Wednesday was a traveling day. I drove the car; Bob followed on the motorcycle. We departed Warren, Pennsylvania, at approx. 9:15 AM and rolled into Norwalk, Ohio, around 1:15 PM. Norwalk was an intermediate destination. Our final destination was Interlochen, Michigan, where we attended a Vulcan Riders and Owners Club (VROC) motorcycle rally. When we left Warren, it was cloudy. It started to rain just east of Painesville, Ohio. The rain stayed with us all the way to Norwalk. The downpour was heavy at times.
We spent the night at the Best Western Norwalk. Our hotel room was stuffed full of furniture: 2 queen beds, a night stand, an end table, desk and chair, refrigerator with microwave on top, dresser with flat screen TV. As you enter the room there is a closet, a bathroom sink and door leading to the small bathroom. The room was nice but very crowded. We stayed at this same hotel on our way back home from Interlochen. We asked for a room with a king-sized bed. There was more space in that room.
After checking into the hotel, we ate lunch at Berry’s Restaurant, which was located a couple miles from the hotel in the heart of Norwalk’s Historic Business District. The ambiance, service and food were all good.

It stopped raining and the sun came out, while we were eating lunch. We went for a walk after lunch. Norwalk’s Historic Business District appeared well taken care of.

We traveled approximately 211 miles on Wednesday. We could have traveled farther. Our original travel plan, though, was to travel separately. The original plan was for me to leave mid-morning, and Bob was supposed to leave around 4:00 PM, after work. Bob decided to take the entire day off work, and we traveled together. I liked the change in plan.

Looks like a great first day, Linda. Bet Bob was pretty wet that day!!!! I would be like you —not wanting to drive all of that distance by myself.. I made a long trip in 2000 by myself —and struggled to stay awake on the interstates!!!!! ha
Norwalk looks like a great little city.. Sounds like you all like the Best Westerns like we do the Hol. Inn Expresses….
Hugs,
Betsy
Linda, I am glad you were able to go together. I know you were timid on driving far by yourself. At least this way you could follow each other. Norwalk looks like a nice town. Great shots!
What a nice start to your vacation. I look forward to your next post Linda. We are in our hotel for the night and I am falling asleep as I type. I hope to write a post tomorrow evening. In the meantime there will be one of my post-dated ones.
Thanks for the memories. I remember the Huron County Courthouse from travels through Norwalk many years ago.
Looks like a really enjoyable first day and a good amount of road. I find any more than that i’m too tired to really get around to see and enjoy where we are.
I wondered where you had been…then I didn’t blog for a day or two…
Anyway, I hate driving in heavy rain. Don’t even like being out on the road when it is too heavy, even if someone else is driving.
Anyway, that jail…that is some building to be a jail! I enjoyed all these shots, too.
