Day Trip to Erie
Yesterday we drove to Erie.
In Erie Our first destination was Presque Isle State Park, where we drove around the peninsula. We saw Canada Geese, ducks and a Great Blue Heron.
We ate lunch at Underground BBQ. Bob had a chopped brisket sandwich; I had a pulled pork sandwich. As a side dish, we both got macaroni and cheese. Lunch was good.
After lunch we drove to the nearby Giant Eagle, where Bob got his first shingles vaccine. Bob’s health insurance pays 100% of the vaccine cost. He will need a second vaccine in 2-6 months. I want to get a shingles vaccine as well. My health insurance doesn’t cover the vaccine shot. It appears that my prescription plan will cover a small percentage of the cost. I checked the vaccine cost at Good RX. It is the least expensive option. I will get my first Shingles vaccine this week or early next week.
Our next stop was Sam’s Club, where we filled up our fuel tank and added to our pantry. We paid $3.64/gallon for fuel, which was less expensive than $3.75 at Sheetz. I checked fuel prices today online. Sam’s Club is now charging $3.69/gallon, and Sheetz is charging $3.89/gallon. Imam glad that our car is fuel efficient.
Our next stop was at PetSmart to buy cat litter.
We left Erie from PetSmart, en route home. We stopped at Save a Lot in Corry to buy a few more groceries. Then we stopped at Tim Hortons for dessert – tea for me and coffee for Bob with a Boston Creme donut for me and an oatmeal raisin cookie for Bob.

Sounds like a nice day. The picture of the geese in flight is a great capture. Really striking. I also like the picture of the heron. Dan and I have both gotten the Shingles vaccines. I read a blog post by someone who had Shingles and then had long term consequences. After reading that, I signed us up to the vaccine. It’s nice that after two shots, you’re all set.
Hello,
Great shots of the birds. Your lunch sounds yummy. Hubby and I both got the Shingles vaccine.
Gas prices are going up here too. We have no choice but to pay the high prices. Take care, enjoy your day!
You got a great shot of those Canada Geese in flight, Linda. We have quite a few on the Nashua River, even now, but more so as the weather warms up. We also have Mallard Ducks and most unusual, a Great Blue Heron. gas prices are higher in this area as we paid $3.58/gal this week but saw a price of $3.99 (yikes!) We have had both shingles vaccines, older and newer. When we moved here years ago we paid out of pocket for them as insurance didn’t cover. Years after, the public health dept here was offering the newer vaccine at 0 cost, so we got them there. Perhaps a public health dept in your area is doing something similar?
Our gas prices, as of today, is $4.19 (yikes!) at our local Sheetz. I was administered my first Shringix vaccine this morning. I used a Good RX coupon and paid $155.00.
That was a great action shot of the Canada Geese in flight, Linda. We have them and also Mallards and a Great Blue Heron here on the Nashua River. We filled our car for $3.58/gal the other day, but competing stations were at least 20 cents higher, yikes! We had the original c\shingles vaccine when we relocated to Nashua years ago and had to pay out-of-pocket as well since it wasn’t covered by insurance. Then the local public health dept was offering the newer shingles vaccine at 0 cost so we got that one as well. Perhaps we are doubly protected? You might want to check if a local public health dept in your area offers shots.
Great shots of the birds, especially liked the geese in flight. Love to hear them honking overhead. We have been talking about getting a shingles shot this week too and two days ago we paid $4.30 at the gas pump.
