I think I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the sweet earth’s flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
By Joyce Kilmer.
I went to Office Max today to buy photo paper for our new Epson printer. As I was leaving Office Max, I realized how hungry I was. I hadn’t eaten breakfast, and it was going on 11:00AM. McDonald’s was only a couple blocks away, so I drove there and entered the drive-up lane. The ham, cheese and egg bagel appealed to me, so I ordered a #11 with orange juice.
At the drive-up window the girl hands me a bag and says that the orange juice will take a minute more. It stuck me a little odd that I had to wait for orange juice. A minute later the girl hands me an orange juice. I drive forward and pull into a parking space. I open my bag, look inside and much to my surprise I see a fish sandwich and french fries. I think “what the heck!”, as I start to get out of my car with the intention of walking inside McDonald’s to tell them I was given the wrong order.
As luck would have it, I remembered in the nick of time that I had not yet set my car clock ahead one hour. It was an hour later than I had thought. It was going on 12:00 noon, not going on 11:00AM. I am SO HAPPY that I did not go into McDonald’s and ask why my order had fish and french fries instead of a breakfast sandwich and hash browns. I would have been so embarrassed. As I ate my fish sandwich and french fries I realized why my orange juice took a minute longer to get. McDonald’s probably doesn’t sell a lot of orange juice during lunch or dinner time. The orange juice could possibly have been put away.
Have you ever felt silly about something that you did or about something that happened to you?
