Sunday Dinner Ride

We spent the afternoon and part of the evening of Sunday, June 14, riding with our 2 Scoop CycleTherapy friends. We met Paul, Debbie, John, Carol, Scott, Donna, Mark, Faye and Bill at the North Warren Playground parking lot at 12:30 pm.

We put on our rain gear, as it started to rain shortly before our 1:00 pm departure time.

Carol getting a little help from John in putting on rain gear.

Our final destination was Sprague’s Maple Farms, located in Portville NY.

We made one stop, in Eldred PA, on our way to Sprague’s. A few of the ladies used the stop as a potty break. It didn’t take long for us to reach Sprague’s from that stop.

Eldred PA stop

It was 3:30 pm, when we were seated and our dinner orders placed. Bob ordered a pork chop dinner. I ordered a breakfast entree: scrambled eggs, bacon and pancakes. The pancakes were unlimited. I couldn’t even finish the three pancakes that came with my meal!

After dinner we started our ride back home.

Getting ready to leave Sprague’s Maple Farms

We stopped at Marilla Reservoir in Bradford PA, where I planned to take a group picture of the eleven of us at the covered bridge.  We got sidetracked, though, when we saw an eagle in a tree.

Eagle in Tree

We heard thunder, while at the reservoir, and changed our planned route home. We backtracked a short way and took Songbird Lane to Route 770 to Route 59. This was a faster way home than taking Route 346 to Route 321. It rained on our way home. I had taken off my rain gear when we arrived at Sprague’s.  I did not put the rain pants back on, when we left Sprague’s.  I got wet and cold.  As soon as we returned home, I took a long, hot shower and went to bed.  The next morning I awakened with a sore throat, runny nose, a cough and a hoarse voice.  It took the better part of the week to feel better!

Adam’s Big Surprise

Bob and I are members of a local motorcycle group called 2 Scoop CycleTherapy.  We get together on Tuesday evenings, go for a ride, and stop for ice cream along the way.  We get together for rides other times during the week as well.

We met up with our 2 Scoop CycleTherapy friends at 5:00 pm yesterday at the North Warren Playground parking lot.  At 5:20 pm we departed from the parking lot and rode together to Betts Park. The purpose of going to Betts Park was to surprise a teenage boy named Adam, who has special needs. Adam graduated high school on Friday, and his graduation party was held yesterday at Betts Park.  Adam loves motorcycles. His mother had asked Donna, who is a member of our motorcycle group and who works with Special Needs students, if she knew anyone who rides.  Boy! howdy! Does Donna know people who ride!  Donna invited members of the 2 Scoop CycleTherapy group to help her surprise Adam.

This was Adam’s expression, when he saw all the motorcycles.

Paul gave Adam a couple rides in his sidecar. The first ride was just Paul and Adam.

Adam, getting into the sidecar

Look how happy Adam is!

I captured a short video clip, as Paul and Adam returned from the first ride around the parking lot.

On the second ride Adam was part of a ride, as members of 2 Scoop CycleTherapy joined in on the ride around the parking lot.

Once again I captured a short video clip, when Adam returned back from the ride.

It warmed each of our hearts to see how excited and happy Adam was to have received such a wonderful graduation present.

Ice Cream Ride to Youngsville Dairy Queen

Bob and I went on a motorcycle ride yesterday evening with our 2 Scoop CycleTherapy group friends.

The North Warren Playground parking lot provides an excellent staging area for our weekly ice cream rides.  There is a covered pavilion that provides plenty of sitting space and a large parking lot with plenty of space for our motorcycles.

North Warren Playground parking lot

Our initial plan was to stop for ice cream somewhere in Tidioute, PA.  This map shows the route that we rode from North Warren to Tidioute.  Our ice cream destination changed, while stopped at the Tidioute Overlook.  The Tidioute Overlook is located along Route 337, a short distance before reaching Route 62 in Tidioute.

This is the parking lot for the Tidoute Overlook.

Carol and I walked the short distance from the parking lot to the Allegheny River overlook.  We found Mandy back there, taking pictures of the view.

A decision was made at the Tidioute Overlook that we would go to the Dairy Queen in Youngsville for ice cream.  If we stopped for ice cream in Tidioute, it would be a cold ride back home.

We crossed over the Tidioute bridge and turned right onto Davey Hill Road, which we followed to U.S. Route 6 to the Dairy Queen.

This map shows our route from Tidioute to the Dairy Queen in Youngsville.

Youngsville Dairy Queen

I had never seen so many employees inside Dairy Queen.  At the Youngsville Dairy Queen, you place an order at the counter.  A number is given to you.  One of the employees brings your food, hot or cold, to your table.

We saw a variety of animals during last night’s ride.  I counted at least 7 deer.  Two deer crossed the road in front of our ride leader.  Bob and I were two motorcycles behind the ride leader.  Apparently Bob and I missed seeing a deer standing on the road.  Everyone else saw it; we didn’t!  We saw a live porcupine on the side of the road;  a buzzard flew across the road in front of our ride leader; and two horses in their pasture trotted alongside our motorcycles.  I think it was Paul, our ride leader, who made the comment that we had been on a safari!

After enjoying our ice cream at Dairy Queen, we made our way back home.

Ice Cream Ride to Peaches and Cream

My husband and I belong to a motorcycle group called 2 Scoop Cycletherapy.  We are a group of friends who like to ride.  Once a week in the spring, summer and fall months we ride for ice cream.  We ride together other times, too, but once a week our destination is always someplace that we can get a couple scoops of ice cream.

This past Tuesday (May 26th) we rode to Peaches and Cream in Randolph, NY.  The countryside that we rode through on our way to Peaches and Cream was beautiful.

Memorial Day Weekend: Monday

On Memorial Day (Monday, May 25th) we went for a motorcycle ride with friends.  We left from the North Warren Playground parking lot at 12:30 pm. There were 14 riders and 8 motorcycles. Our friend, Mark, led our Memorial Day ride.

North Warren Playground parking lot

We rode through Warren, PA.

We rode alongside a pretty creek.

Our first stop was at The Farmer’s Inn in Sigel, PA.

We walked through these double doors.

Bob and I have eaten at The Farmer’s Inn numerous times.
This was the first time we had been inside this part of the restaurant.

It was our first time, too, ordering BBQ chicken dinners.   Each of us enjoyed BBQ chicken dinners–½ chicken, potato salad, baked beans and a roll. Our dinners were delicious and inexpensive, at $7.99 each.  You may have noticed that the sign at the entrance to this part of the restaurant said that BBQ chicken dinners were available on Saturday and Sunday only.  I think because it was the Memorial Day holiday, BBQ chicken dinners were available on Saturday, Sunday AND Monday.

After dinner, we enjoyed looking at the goats.  There were lots of baby goats!

A truck pulled up with a couple Amish men inside.  The goats came running to the barn.

Hey! Come over here and see me!

The goats were not the only babies we saw.

The baby lambs were so cute!

Everyone had fun shopping at the Bulk Food and Candy Store. Several of us bought a variety of flavored Gummi Bears and other candies to share.

We enjoyed sitting in the gazebo, chatting together.

Two more friends and two of their friends joined us at The Farmers Inn, arriving a short time after we had eaten dinner. We waited until the four of them finished eating and we had chatted some more before continuing our ride. On this next leg of our ride there were 18 riders and 10 motorcycles.

From Farmers Inn we turned left onto Rt. 949 and rode past Clear Creek State Park and through Clear Creek State Forest to Ridgway, PA.  We made a fuel stop at Sheetz in Ridgway.

Sam and Mandy at Sheetz in Ridgway, PA

From Ridgway we followed Rt 219 to Custer City, where we stopped at the Custer City Drive-In for ice cream.

Custer City Drive-In

We took routes 770 and 59 back home. We returned home around 7:30 pm.

It was a perfect day for a ride, not too hot or cold.  You might recall that I had put my liner back inside my leather coat for Saturday’s ride to Niagara Falls?  I wore my leather coat without a liner on this ride and was comfortable. We couldn’t have asked for a better day. What was the best part of the day? … sharing the day with our friends!

Short Motorcycle Ride

I am taking a short break from writing about our Easter vacation in Virginia to write about a more current event.  I will return to vacation blog posts soon.

Bob and I went for a short motorcycle ride last evening with the 2 Scoop CycleTherapy group. We ride for ice cream.

We departed from the North Warren Community Park at 6:00 pm.

When I took the picture shown above, there were 5 motorcycles and 9 riders. I put away my camera, and two more riders and 1 motorcycle arrived. We met another rider and motorcycle in Russell. So, all total, there were 7 motorcycles and 12 riders on this ride.

We rode to the Busti Country Convenience Grocery in Busti, NY.

According to a brochure I found at the Busti Country Convenience Grocery, the mission of this store is to provide “our community with a quick and pleasant place to shop where they are treated like a friend.  High quality food at all times.  We want our customers to view us a a ‘convenience store’ not an inconvenience store.  We will do our best to achieve this.”  Bob and I have only enjoyed ice cream at this grocery.  At $1.86 for one very large scoop of ice cream, it is a real bargain!  Our friends told us the pizza, bread and stromboli are exceptionally good.

I am looking forward to our next ice cream ride!

Paul’s Pied Piper Ride

I look forward to Wednesday night rides with friends. We leave at 6:00 pm from the North Warren Playground parking lot, which is located not far from our house. We usually get home before dark.  Last night’s ride was to Eralndson Overview Park, located near Frewsburg NY.    This was our first Autumn ride; this was our first ride when we didn’t stop for ice cream; and this was our first ride where we took a wrong turn.

Everyone met at the North Warren Playground parking lot.

The next several photographs are of scenery along our ride route.  As you look through the pictures, you will notice that Autumn colors are beginning to appear.

Scenery along Scandia Road

Scandia Road was pretty rough in places.
Later we were to learn that some roads could be even rougher!

We rode past the Allegheny Reservoir in Onoville NY.

The entrance road to Erlandson Overview Park

We stayed at Erlandson Overview Park, watching the sky turn color.

It was getting dark, as we prepared to depart Erlandson Overview Park.  There would be no ice cream stop on this ride.  It was getting late.  It got later still, as we ended up taking a wrong turn.  A phrase comes to mind — “where he leads, we will follow”.  Also the story of the Pied Piper came to mind 🙂  Paul was in the lead, we followed him as we made our way back home.  There was one left turn onto a road on which a short way down the road a sign read “Pavement ends”.  The pavement certainly did end, abruptly.  The “road”, if I can call it that, was a narrow and steep dirt path that was riddled with holes and ruts.  We rode a short way down this path until we found a farmers field in which we turned around.  We made it back home around 8:30 pm.  Our planned 1 1/2 hour ride turned into a 2 1/2 hour ride.  We had a great time, though.  I love these Wednesday night rides.  Not only do we get to spend time with friends, doing something we all enjoy, but there is always an adventure to reminisce about!
