Awaiting Arrival of Grandchildren

I received a telephone call from Chris, Stacey’s mother, at 1:30 the afternoon of May 18th.  Stacey’s C-section had been scheduled for Tuesday, May 22. She has been going to the doctor every Friday since mid April.  The doctor decided to push up the C-section because Stacey’s hands and feet were very swollen from water retention.  In addition Harper’s fluid level had gone down.  Nothing for alarm, though, because the doctor scheduled the C-section for after his office hours.   Chris said that the babies would be taken at 4:00 PM.  Bob and I drove to Hamot Women’s Hospital in Erie, arriving there by 3:15 PM.    Mike arrived around 3:40 PM and went immediately into the birthing center.

Sue, Mike’s mother, was the next to arrive, followed by Jay, Chris’s husband.

Five grandparents, in waiting
Sue’s husband, Henry, was not able to come to the hospital.

To be continued …

Day at the Beach

I took Stacey to Erie for an OB appointment. Stacey’s mom accompanied Stacey and I. Stacey had a sonogram; the babies are doing well. After today’s appointment we ate lunch at Hoss’s Steak and Sea House and then went for a ride around Presque Isle State Park.

Baby Shower #2

My stepdaughter’s mother, Chris, hosted Stacey’s second baby shower this past Saturday (April 14). The shower was attended by family and friends.

The baby shower invitation was creative and very cute. (Please click on each image to enlarge.)

“Left Right” Game

At Stacey’s first baby shower, we played a game called “Left Right”. That game was so much fun that Chris included that game at her shower as well. I took this photograph, while the game was in progression. A story is read aloud. Every time the word Right is mentioned players pass a gift to the right. When players hear Left the gift is passed to the left. The person holding the gift at the end of the game wins the gift. “Left Right” is a very fun game!

“Guess Mom’s Tummy Size” Game

Another fun game was “Guess Mom’s Tummy Size”. Each woman pulled yarn to the size they believe would fit perfectly around Stacey’s center of her pregnant tummy. After everyone cuts their string, results were compared to Stacey’s actual tummy. A prize was given to the person who was the most close. We all were in agreement that Stacey’s tummy size is small, given she is 33 weeks and carrying twin girls.

Don’t you love this cake!

Baby Shower #1

My stepdaughter’s mother-in-law, Sue, hosted Stacey’s first baby shower this past Saturday (March 24). The shower was attended by Stacey’s mother, some members of the church at which Sue attends services, Stacey’s sister-in-law and myself.

The theme of the baby shower was “Diapers and Wipes”. With twins, Stacey and Mike are going to need LOTS of diapers and wipes!

As is the case at all baby showers, attendees played games. In this game the hostess (Sue) read a story aloud. Every time the word Right is mentioned players passed the gift to the right. When players heard Left then they passed the gift to the left. It was a very fun game.

It was my lucky day. I won not one prize, but two prizes, during game play! All shower prize gifts were thoughtful gifts, including the two that I won. My first prize was liquid bath soap and a foam sea sponge. I won this prize because I had the closest guess for the number of jelly beans in a baby bottle. The baby bottle held 199 jelly beans. My guess was 198! My second prize was a Cool Gear Double Wall Cup. I won this prize because my food plate had the word “baby” (or was it “babies”?) written on the bottom of it. This cup will get lots of use as a Smoothie receptacle.

Speaking of food …

and the food tasted as good as it looked!

Now for one final photograph — my favorite of the mother-to-be …

The lamb was one of the first shower gifts that Stacey unwrapped.

Stacey’s next baby shower is next month and will be hosted by her mother. Bob and I plan to have a “Welcome Babies Party” one-three months after the birth of Harper and Juniper.

The Nursery

The nursery is ready for the arrival of our grandchildren.

The changing table was the last furniture item to be placed in the room.
Soon it will be full of diapers and wipes.

We now await the arrival of Harper and Juniper.

This Weekend’s Highlights

It was a quiet weekend; however, I do have a few things to share with you.

In an earlier blog post I mentioned that my stepdaughter is pregnant with twins. On Friday Stacey had a sonogram, in which neither baby appeared to be a boy. Twin girls…how exciting! I would be just as excited, though, if both babies were boys or if Stacey were carrying one of each.

On Saturday Bob and I went on a shopping trip to Erie. We left home mid morning. Bob took an out-of-the-way route by a few miles to show me a picturesque property … a farm located near Route 27 in Garland, PA. The farm is called Oak Alley Farms. When we got home from Erie, I searched for the farm on the Internet and found the Oak Alley Farms website.

Our first stop in Erie was at Millcreek Mall, where we made three purchases.

This Weekend's Highlights
We purchased a Cuisinart Egg Cooker.
Bob has made two batches of hard-boiled eggs since Saturday. The egg cooker works very well.

In addition to the egg cooker, we purchased a pair of Ryka walking shoes for me and a baby shower gift for our new great niece. Stacey and I will be attending Elise’s baby shower on Saturday, January 14. I am looking forward to meeting baby Elise!

We ate lunch at Old Country Buffet, a favorite stop when in Erie.

We made a quick stop at Staples (didn’t buy anything) and headed home. We were on our way home by 1:35 pm. Our shopping trips rarely last for very long!

On Sunday our friends, Dave and Susan M., stopped by so that Bob could look at Susan’s laptop computer. The computer was purchased in August, last year, and the disk is already full! Bob looked over the computer and discovered that Dell’s backup utility was automatically backing up data to the C drive. Bob deleted the backup and removed the utility. There is lots of space on the C drive now; Susan is happy.

While Dave and Susan were here, Stacey and Mike dropped by for a short visit. Before long everyone had left.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, it was a quiet weekend.
