Happy Birthday Patches!

Our cat, Patches, joined our family in February 2011.

D2190024 4x6Our veterinarian estimated Patches’ age to be about 6 months old, when we got her.

We picked August 29th as Patches birthday.

Today is Patches’ third birthday.

Happy Birthday Anna!

Our great niece, Anna, is 5 years old today.  I have two nephews and one niece.  Anna is the daughter of my oldest nephew, Michael, and his wife Kailey.  I searched my archives for photographs of Anna at each age.  Each photograph brought forth smiles and memories.  I hope that you enjoy the photographs as much as I do.

Anna was born at 12:02 PM on August 19, 2008.  She weighed 6lbs 13oz and was 19 1/2 inches long.  Stacey and I saw Anna when she was just 1 1/2 hours old.

I saw Anna again when she was 4 days old.  Bob saw her, too, then for the first time.

Anna was 3 years old, when her grandmother Judy took this photograph of Anna and me at Stacey’s wedding.  I was the “official photographer” at Stacey’s wedding and didn’t have many free moments to interact with my brother and his family.  I treasure this photograph of Anna and me.

Anna was about a week away from her fourth birthday, when I took this picture of her at the family camp.

Here is the latest photograph of Anna (and her older brother Kaleb).  This photograph was taken by Anna’s mom a few days ago.

Our Granddaughters First Birthday Party

Our twin granddaughters turned one year old this past Saturday (May 18).  A birthday party for the girls was held at our house on Sunday.

invitation

Stacey created the invitations and did all the party planning.

The birthday party was held in our back yard.

Everyone enjoyed the variety of food that included hot dogs, hamburgers, tortilla chips with chicken wing dip, shrimp poppers, and corn dogs.

Stacey baked a “smash cake” for each girl.

This video shows that Harper really enjoyed smashing her cake.

June, on the other hand, took a dainty approach to her smash cake.

Harper decided to show June how smashing a cake is done.

June decided to try it Harper’s way.

The girls received new clothing, new toys and new books.

New Personalized Jean Jackets

The girls received lots of birthday presents.

Stacey did an excellent job planning Harper and June’s birthday party.  The party was well attended; the food was good; and fun was had by all.

90th Birthday Celebration

Wilma’s birthday cake

Wilma’s granddaughter asked if I would take some photographs at her grandmother’s 90th birthday celebration.  The grandmother, whose name is Wilma, is also my son-in-law’s grandmother and the great grandmother of our twin granddaughters.  The birthday party was held this past Sunday.  Unfortunately, Wilma was ill and not able to attend her birthday party.

I believe this photograph includes everyone who attended the birthday party.

These are five of Wilma’s siblings.

Because Wilma was not at the birthday party to blow out her candles, three of her great granddaughters blew out the candle.

Happy Birthday Brian!

Our friend Brian’s 50th birthday is today.

Beth, Brian’s wife, surprised him with a birthday party this past Saturday evening.  The party was held at McCulla’s Steakhouse here in Warren, PA.  Attendees included mainly family members and a few friends, including Bob and I.  Bob and Brian are coworkers and have worked together for the past 10+ years.

This is a photograph of Brian with his wife, Beth, and their youngest son David, when they first walked into McCulla’s Steakhouse.

Happy birthday, Grandpa!

Brian saw his grandson first, whom he scooped up into his arms.  Brian then noticed Bob and Garry (another coworker) at the table and said to Beth “you didn’t!”.  Beth’s reply was “yes, I did”.  Beth pulled it off.  She threw a surprise birthday party for Brian’s 50th birthday.

We enjoyed our prime rib dinners, followed by cupcakes for dessert, and the never-ending conversation.  We met several new people, three of Brian and Beth’s friends as well as their oldest son Steve and his family.  We have seen so many pictures and have heard so many stories about their grandson, Ben.  It was very good to finally meet him in person.

One-Year Birthday Celebration

Our great niece, Elise, turned 1 year old in December.  On Sunday, December 30, we celebrated Elise’s birthday with family and friends.  The birthday party was held at my brother’s house.

We left Warren around 11 am and arrived in Kittanning, PA around 1:30 pm.  We checked into Quality Inn, where we spent the night, and left for Jim and Judy’s house shortly before 2:00 pm.  We made a hotel reservation, even though we could have made it back home the same day, because weather conditions are always uncertain in the winter time.  Also, staying overnight gave us more time to spend with my family.

We spent the next 5 hours eating sloppy joes, potato salad and cake; chatting and watching Elise open gifts.

Here are a few photographs from Elise’s birthday party.

I didn’t capture a photograph of Elise eating her birthday cake, only the aftermath.

Rocking Horse!

The rocking horse was a birthday present from Elise’s grandparents.

Elise liked the rocking horse for a little while…until she didn’t!

It was a good party.  I am happy that we decided to spend the night, rather than go home that night.  I enjoyed the extra time with my family.

Happy Birthday Elise!

Our great niece, Elise, is 1 year old today.  I have two nephews and one niece.  Elise is the daughter of my niece, Emily, and her husband Dan.  I want to share photographs of Elise from the past year; however, I do not have many pictures of her as I have seen her only four times in the past year.  Emily, however, has taken photographs of Elise each month of her life.  I asked permission to share some of Emily’s Facebook photographs with you.  I hope that you enjoy the photographs as much as I do.

Thoughts on This Second Day of the New Year

Elise, one day old

Bob, Stacey and I met Elise for the first time on February 26.

I love this photograph of our great nephew, Kaleb, his sister Anna, and Elise.  Kaleb is 6 1/4 years old in this photograph.  Anna is 3 1/2 years old.

Elise, Emily and the proud grandparents

I visited with Emily, Dan and Elise in mid March.  Our exchange student from Brazil, who lived with us during the 2004-2005 school year, was visiting at the time and accompanied me to meet his new “cousin”.

It so happened that we saw Elise around the same time that the picture shown above was taken.  My brother and his family attended the “Welcome Granddaughter” picnic that Bob and I hosted on July 28.
