Deborah’s Bridal Shower

I attended a friend’s bridal shower yesterday afternoon. Deborah’s bridal shower was held at the Corry Community Center in Corry, PA from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.

As is traditional at bridal showers, games were played.

For the “Say the Word” game, each guest was given a handmade necklace.

Preparing for “Say the Word” game

The rules for this game were if you said the words “bride” or “wedding” that you would lose your necklace to the person who caught you. The person with the most necklaces at the end of the game won a prize.

Another game was called “How well do you know the bride?”.

Playing the game “How well do you know the bride?”

The person who had the most correct answers received a prize.

In the game “What’s in Your Purse”, points were received for specific items contained inside your purse.

If anything in your purse matched what was in Deborah’s purse, you were rewarded additional points.  The person who had the most points won a prize.

The last game I recall was one in which everyone received an envelope with a picture inside.

Playing the “who has the groom” game

If the groom was inside the envelope you received, the recipient won a prize.  None of these pictures are the groom.

Each member of the bridal party attended the bridal shower.

I am looking forward to photographing Deborah and Brian’s wedding on June 24, 2017.

VROC Reunion Rally 2015: Susan’s Bachelorette Party

This blog post continues Day 5 of our 13-day vacation. We are in Eureka Springs, AR attending the annual Vulcan Riders and Owners Club (VROC) Reunion motorcycle rally.

We had just unpacked the car, when Vicki H. stopped by.  Bob and I met Vicki and her husband Scott in June 2009 at another VROC rally — the Wandering Wolfman’s Rally held in Richmond, KY.  We hadn’t seen each other since that rally, although we had some contact since then via Facebook and email.  Vicki asked if I wanted to come to Susan’s bachelorette party. I grabbed my purse and off we went.

Our mode of transportation was a trolley that stopped in front of our hotel, Motel 62.

Fifteen of us accompanied Susan to her bachelorette party.

Riding the trolley to downtown Eureka Springs
We had the entire trolley to ourselves.

The trolley ride cost $6.00. I believe the pass is good tomorrow as well, given the late hour that the ticket was purchased.  The trolley driver left us off very near to where the bachelorette party festivities would begin.

From the trolley drop-off location we walked to the Balcony Bar & Restaurant,
where we began the evening’s festivities with dinner.

This is the Basin Park Hotel.
The Balcony Bar & Restaurant is located on the second floor.
We ate dinner outside, on the balcony, located under the green awning.

Susan, the bride-to-be

Susan was showered with a few gifts.

There was lots of laughter during dinner.

After dinner we walked to the Cathouse, where we enjoyed more fun and laughter.  I had only my mobile phone with me, with very little charge remaining by the time we arrived at the Pied Piper Pub.  I am happy that I had sufficient battery power remaining to capture a photograph of everyone who attended Susan’s bachelorette party.

There was some discussion as to how we would get back to our hotel from downtown Eureka Springs.  The trolley stopped running at 6:00 pm, I believe.  It was mentioned that we could telephone a couple of the guys back at the hotel to come pick us up.  We decided, though, to find the way back on our own.  We rode back to the hotel in style, via limousine service!

 Susan and the pink limousine

What a surprise when we discovered our mode of transportation back to the hotel would be in a pink limousine!  Pink is Susan’s favorite color.  Well, not really.  You would think so, though, based on the amount of comments and shared pictures Susan receives on Facebook.  I don’t know when or why Susan gets teased about pink.  I thought how appropriate, though, that we would be riding back to the hotel in a pink limousine.

The limousine cost $6.25+tip each and made two trips back to our hotel. Ten of us, including the bride-to-be, went on the first trip to the hotel. When we pulled into the parking lot, we were greeted by camera flashes. I think everyone thought it cool that we returned to the hotel by limousine. Bob was nowhere to be found. I called him on the phone. He was in our hotel room. Someone told me that he had “turned in” a while ago. Given the location of our room in the back of the hotel, we can’t look out the window or open the door to see what is going on.  After I telephoned Bob, he come out front and did see the pink limousine when it returned to the hotel for the second time. The bachelorette party was a good time, full of fun and laughter. I am happy that I attended the party.

Shannon, who gave me permission to use a couple of her photographs, also uploaded a blog post about Susan’s bachelorette party.  You may read Shannon’s account of the party by clicking here.

Stacey’s Bridal Shower

I attended my stepdaughter Stacey’s bridal shower on August 14th.  Stacey’s bridal shower was held at the Hampton Inn in Warren, PA.

Vanessa’s Bridal Shower

I will be photographing a wedding later this month. The wedding photography opportunity came about as a result of word of month. I photographed my neighbor’s daughter’s wedding late last year. My neighbor’s coworker was looking for a photographer for her daughter’s wedding. My name was mentioned.

In late March, the bride-to-be (Vanessa) came to my house to look at photographs that I had taken of past weddings. Vanessa must have liked my photographs because she asked me to photograph her wedding. Vanessa and Sean’s wedding will be held on July 23.

As I do not know the members of the wedding party or their families, I thought it would be good to become acquainted with some of them before the wedding. I volunteered to take photographs at Vanessa’s bridal shower. The bridal shower took place this past Saturday (July 9). It was held at a picnic pavilion in Crescent Park in my hometown of Warren, Pennsylvania.

Bridal shower guests brought a pot luck dish to share as well as a recipe for that dish. The recipes will be put into a Newlywed Cookbook for Vanessa.

As is traditional at bridal showers, games were played.

Matching celebrity couples

Bridal bouquet toss – The person who tossed the bouquet the farthest won a prize.

Drawing game – The person who drew the best picture of a bride in a bridal gown won a prize.

I am happy that I attended Vanessa’s bridal shower. I became more acquainted with Vanessa. I met a few members of Vanessa’s family, as well as some of her friends. As a result, I believe I will have a better comfort level when photographing Vanessa’s wedding. I hope, too, that those whom I will photograph at the wedding will feel more comfortable with me!
