A Snowy Walk in the Park

We drove to Home Depot in Erie PA this morning. We picked up two kids sleds, curbside, at Home Depot.

On our way home we stopped at Mead Park in Corry PA. We went for a walk in the park.

I have new boots.

These boots are the first to-the-knee boots I have had, at least as an adult. I love my new boots. They are warm and comfy too.

The bridge leads to the Corry Area Historical Society Museum. We have not yet visited this museum. Perhaps one day we will visit the museum.

This Helicopter Frog is located at the Corry Area Historical Society Museum.

We left the museum grounds and returned to Mead Park.

We hope to make use of the kids sleds sometime this month.

It was a nice day today — sunny and almost balmy. The temperature reached the low 40s. Today was a lull between two winter snows — the lake effect snow event that we endured the past week and a new winter storm event that is coming our way tomorrow evening.

Bob and I went to Erie today. We ate lunch at Old Country Buffet, arriving just as 70-80 youngsters from Warren were leaving. We know the children were from Warren because they were getting on two Warren County School District buses. Lunch was good. We especially liked the fried chicken, meatloaf, seafood salad, orange chicken and dessert. As is usual for me, my dessert was an ample serving of volcano chocolate cake with a dollop of vanilla ice cream on top. Bob’s dessert was chocolate cake, cookies and apple crisp. After lunch we went to Target. We made a couple purchases and then left for home. On the way home we stopped at Mead Park in Corry, PA.

The late afternoon lighting was exquisite. I photographed the pond and arched bridge. By the way, you might recall that Bob and I stopped at this park earlier this year. Click here for my blog post about the park from that visit.

After capturing these photographs, we continued our drive back home.

Mead Park

Our friends, Susan and Dave M., visited Mead Park last week. I saw photographs that Susan had taken at the park on her Facebook page. I liked the park and didn’t recognize it as a park in my hometown. I asked Susan the name and location of this park. She told me it was Mead Park in Corry, PA. On the way home from this past Saturday’s day trip to Erie Bluffs State Park, Bob and I stopped briefly at Mead Park. Mead Park is a 50 acre park located on the west side of the city.

I had not seen playground equipment such as this until we visited Mead Park.

I liked the artsy look of these two bridges.

We saw only a small portion of Mead Park. We will most definitely make a return visit to this park!

Spontaneity, Don’t you Love It?

I got home from work on Saturday a little after 1:30PM. As we were eating lunch, Bob asked what my plans were for the day. I didn’t have any. It was a warm Spring day so I thought Bob might want to go for a motorcycle ride. Instead Bob asked if I still wanted to go to Erie (I had asked Bob on Friday if he would be interested in going to Erie the next day to shop and get something to eat. Bob didn’t know then whether or not he wanted to go to Erie.) I said yes, i would like to go to Erie if he wanted to go.

As we finished lunch I mentioned to Bob that the miniature tripod I used on Friday to take close-up pictures of flowers was not sturdy enough to hold my camera. I had to hold onto a leg of the tripod to keep the camera from falling forward. Bob mentioned that I might be able to find a Gorillapod at Van Tuil, the camera store where I had purchased my monopod a couple years ago. Here’s a photograph of a Gorillapod.

Our tripod discussion reminded me that we had spent the night in Erie in a hotel near that camera store. I said to Bob “wouldn’t it be nice to spend the night in Erie?” We could go shopping, get something to eat and perhaps spend a few hours the next day on a photo shoot. Bob agreed that an overnight stay in Erie would be nice.

I made a hotel reservation at Comfort Inn – Presque Isle, the hotel at which we had stayed two years ago. We packed an overnight bag and tossed that bag, our computers and my camera bag into the car. We were on our way to Erie in under 30 minutes from the time we decided to make the trip. I love how we sometimes do spontaneous things like this. It is nice to be able to just pick up and go.

We arrived at the hotel around 3:45PM and checked into our room. After relaxing in our hotel room for about 1 1/2 hours we went shopping at Millcreek Mall and had dinner at Ruby Tuesday. Oh, and I did look up Van Tuil on the Internet, checking for its operating hours. Van Tuil is open only until 4:00PM on Saturdays and is not open on Sundays. A quick look at its website showed me that Gorillapods were not one of the products available through Van Tuil. I did see a heavy duty table tripod, but I prefer the flexibility of the Gorillapod. I’ll shop online later for a Gorillapod.

The next day, Sunday, we got up around 8:00AM. We took showers, got dressed and went downstairs for breakfast. The Comfort Inn provides a full breakfast for its guests. Breakfast selections included Belgian waffles, eggs, sausage, muffins, bagels, juice, fruit, tea and coffee. After breakfast we hung out in our hotel room for a few hours, checking out the store inserts in Sunday’s newspaper and surfing the internet. A bonus feature of spending Saturday night at Comfort Inn – Presque Isle is a free Erie newspaper on Sunday.

We checked out of the hotel around 10:30AM and drove to Presque Isle, which was only a couple miles drive from our hotel. We spent about 1 1/2 hours driving leisurely around Presque Isle. We made a few stops along the way.

Our first stop was at Perry Monument, where Bob was a bully. He chased the geese and made them fly into the water.

We drove along Coast Guard Road to the North Pier Lighthouse. Prior to arriving at the North Pier Lighthouse we stopped at Horseshoe Pond so I could take pictures of the floating houses. The floating houses are so cool! I have seen houses floating on water only on Presque Isle. I was curious, too, if these floating houses stay on the pond year round. I found my answer via a quick Google search. These floating houses do stay on the pond year round.

Upon reaching the end of Coast Guard Road, we parked our car and walked to the end of the concrete pier, where we got up close and personal with the North Pier Lighthouse.

Our next stop was at Presque Isle Lighthouse. I walked to the beach to get a good view of the lighthouse. I was surprised by the amount of sand erosion on the beach. The ground just drops off. I was surprised, too, how well I walked in the sand. I’ve been experiencing a great deal of leg pain and knee instability. My knee felt solid while I waked in the sand. I was careful as I walked; however, my leg didn’t hurt at all while I walked on the sand. I don’t know what to make of that? I did feel like I had a workout, though, when I got back to the car.

After completing our drive around Presque Isle we went to Tim Horton’s for a snack. Tim Horton’s was just up the road from our hotel. It was around 12:15PM when we pulled into Tim Horton’s.

After we finished our snack at Tim Horton’s we started on our way home, making several stops along the way. We stopped to shop at Dick’s Sporting Goods at Millcreek Mall, as well as at Kmart further up the road. We bumped into friends, Susan and Dave, while in Kmart. We always seem to run into someone whom we know from our hometown while shopping in Erie. It never fails to astonish me. We stopped at the casino in Erie. Bob received $10.00 slot play in the mail. Bob played that $10.00 and his own $10.00, losing both. I played my own $5.00 and left the casino with $5.00 more in my pocket.

Our next stop was in the small, picturesque village of Findley Lake, NY.

Our last stop before returning home was at Country Foods, in Corry PA, where we enjoyed a delicious, home-cooked meal. We returned home between 4:30 and 5:00PM. All in all we had a fun, relaxing weekend.
