Bicycle Ride

Bob and I went for a bicycle ride through our neighborhood and across the grounds of the Warren State Hospital to Pioneer Arboretum.  I asked Bob how far we rode.  He said 2 miles.   I brought my camera along for the ride.  I didn’t take too many photographs, only three.

The Pioneer Arboretum is at the north end of the Warren-North Warren Bike/Hike Trail.  This train stands as a reminder that the trail was once a rail corridor.

On our way back home we rode past this patch of crocuses.

This is Peek-A-Boo.

I haven’t ridden a bicycle much in the 15 years (almost) that I have lived in Warren.  It was very windy today.  I found the pedaling easy, when the wind was at our backs.  The pedaling was very hard, though, when we faced the wind.  We faced the wind the whole way back home from Pioneer Arboretum.

There’s Hope

There’s hope …… for Spring flowers.

March 9, 2013

I uploaded the photograph displayed above earlier this month in a blog post entitled “New Life”.    The crocuses have been slow to bloom.  I don’t blame them.  If I were a crocus I wouldn’t want to bloom either, given the cold and snowy days that we have had this month!

Here is a photograph of the crocus from this morning.

Crocuses

Yes, there’s hope for Spring flowers.

New Life

Yes, it’s true.  Spring is coming soon!

As I prepare this blog post, the thermometer reads 56 degrees.   I just came inside from sitting on our front porch steps soaking up the sunshine.   While sitting on our porch steps, I noticed a little green poking through the winter’s accumulation of leaves.  I brushed away the leaves and found new life.

Spring is Coming!

I am looking forward to the colorful flowers that will soon appear.

Delicate Seeds

I was looking through photographs the other day that I had taken during the past year.  I came across this photograph.

I took this photograph on October 25, 2012.

Do you recall the following folklore associated with the delicate seeds of a dandelion?  It is said that if you blow on a white dandelion head and every seed scatters, you are loved. If some seeds still cling to the stalk, you are out of luck. Also, it is said that if you make a wish right before blowing on a dandelion, your wish just might come true. Others claim that the number of seeds remaining are how many years you have left to live.

I didn’t get a chance to blow on the dandelion head.  A blast of wind blew the seeds away shortly after I took this photograph!

Spring Has Sprung

Harry, one of the owners of the store at which I work as a cashier, mentioned that his Hellebores were in full bloom. He invited me to stop by and take some pictures. I dropped by yesterday afternoon and took some pictures of Harry’s garden.

I saw pink Hellebores.

At the base of a bottle tree I saw Kaufmanniana Tulips.

Before I left the garden two pieces of garden art caught my attention.

This “fellow” made me smile.

Harry’s garden shows so much promise of more beauty to come!
