Back Yard Photos

This week, on nice days, I began walking around our back yard and three of our neighbor’s back yards (with permission).  I carry my camera with me.

Chipmunk on Greg and Mary’s Bird Feeder

This is the first Baltimore Oriole that I have seen this year.
I haven’t seen any hummingbirds … yet.
These bird feeders are in our back yard.

I plan to share more back yard photos, from time to time, with you.

A Field of Sunflowers

This past Saturday we rode by a field of sunflowers.  Neither Bob nor I had ever seen a field of sunflowers.  We both remarked on the beauty of the sunflowers.  We didn’t stop, as we were riding with two other couples.  Our friends wouldn’t have minded if we would have stopped.  We had been out and about for 11 hours, though, by the time we saw the field of sunflowers.  All of us wanted to get back home.

This afternoon Bob and I drove to the field of sunflowers.

I picked this one sunflower out of the field of sunflowers to showcase.

Bob and I looked at Google Maps Street View and saw that this field of sunflowers was a field of corn in July 2011.

Nature Center Visit

I spent a couple hours the morning of July 22 at the Audubon Center & Sanctuary, located in Jamestown NY.  The Audubon Center is less than a 1/2 hour drive from my home and is one of my favorite local destinations.  I enjoy walking along the nature trails and photographing whatever happens to catch my eye.

“Liberty”

No visit to the Audubon is complete without seeing “Liberty”.

I happened to be at the Audubon Center, when Liberty was given her lunch.

I hope that you enjoyed looking at photographs of what caught my eye during this visit.

North Carolina Vacation – Day 3 of 9 (Biltmore Estates: Walled Garden and Conservatory)

As I wrote in my previous blog post, we spent Days 3 and 4 (May 13 and May 14) at Biltmore Estates in Asheville NC. After admiring Biltmore House and the Library and South Terraces, we walked through the Shrub Garden to the Walled Garden and Conservatory.  The Walled Garden is a four-acre formal garden featuring flowerbeds of seasonal color.  A Rose Garden is showcased in the lower half of the Walled Garden, with the glass-roofed Conservatory as a backdrop.

Something Red

I am in a Facebook group, called Photography Challenge.  This week’s challenge is “Something Red”.  This photograph of red tulips in a vase was my entry in this week’s photo challenge.

Tulips in a Vase

The tulips, leaves and vase are made of wood and once belonged to my sister-in-law.  I fell in love with this work of art, and it now sits on a cabinet in our living room.

I took this picture in our kitchen on the table.  Soft, natural light is coming in from the windows behind me.  I didn’t like the background (kitchen cabinets, counter top and stove), so I decided to place the flower vase on a different background.

The waterfall is a digital background, which is included in one of the Photobacks packages that I own.

Photography can be such fun!

Weekend Visit in Cuyahoga County, Ohio: Cuyahoga Valley National Park (Post #7)

Our seventh, and last, stop in Cuyahoga Valley National Park was at Beaver Marsh.  The description for this park attraction said to “look for beavers, otters, muskrats, and waterfowl along the wetland boardwalk”.  We didn’t see any beavers, otters or muskrats.  The photographs that follow show what we did see.

Great Blue Heron

I would have loved to have had the opportunity to capture this beautiful Great Blue Heron in flight, but it was not to be.  The heron stayed on that tree branch for our entire visit.

If you missed any of the blog posts of our visit to Cuyahoga Valley National Park, you can catch up on your reading by clicking here.

Bob and I definitely want to return to this park, probably more than just one more time.  It would be nice to see the park in all seasons, don’t you think?  We especially want to return when there is more water flowing over the falls!

If you make your own visit to Cuyahoga Valley National Park, do not miss Szalay’s Farm Market.  We enjoyed the most delicious fruit ice cream sundaes there.  Bob ordered a sundae with blueberries.  I ordered a sundae with the works: strawberries, blueberries, pineapple and bananas.   Delicious!

I have completed my blog posts about Cuyahoga Valley National Park; however, I have not completed my blog posts about our weekend visit to Ohio.  I have two more blog posts to share — the next one being our visit to Chagrin Falls, the village that piqued my interest for our weekend travel.
