Ride with Friends Along Lake Erie

Yesterday, Bob and I went for a ride with friends along Lake Erie in New York.

We met up with our friends at 11:00 am at our local Tim Hortons.  Two other couples rode with us: our friends Susan and Dave and their friends Melinda and Ron.  Before leaving Tim Hortons parking lot, we checked out Dave’s new motorcycle — a 2014 Harley Davidson — that he and Susan purchased on Saturday.  It is a nice motorcycle!

Dave led our ride.  The following two maps show our ride route.

Our first stop was alongside Lake Front Blvd. in Dunkirk, NY.

Our next stop was for lunch at Castaway’s Waterfront Bar & Grill in Angola, NY.  We ate lunch on the patio, with a lovely view of Lake Erie.

I had a grilled chicken sandwich and potato salad for lunch.

The food was delicious, and the service was excellent.  Our waitress was very personable, and she checked on us several times to see if we needed drink refills, food accompaniments or additional food.

We made one more food stop, for dessert, at Sunset Grill in Irving, NY.  Everyone, except Susan, got ice cream.

Susan took these two pictures, while we were at Sunset Grill.  I liked the picnic table swings.  In fact, I mentioned to Bob a couple times that we should buy a picnic table swing for our back yard.  After a while it got chilly in the shade, so we moved to tables on the sunny deck.

Our next-to-last stop, on our way back home, was at Barcelona Harbor in Westfield, NY.  I enjoyed watching the seagulls bobbing up and down on Lake Erie as well as flying overhead.

Off in the distance, along the beach, I spotted a waterfall.

Susan and I walked over to the waterfall and took a picture of each other at the waterfall.

Our last stop was in Mayville, NY to fuel up.  From Mayville we rode straight home, arriving at our house around 7:00 pm.  What a wonderful day for a ride, the day made even better because we shared it with friends.

Hollywood Happening 2014

Bob and I rode to Gowanda NY late morning, May 31st, to check out this year’s Hollywood Happening motorcycle event. This year marks the 16th annual Hollywood Happening. This 3-day motorcycle event benefits the ongoing restoration efforts to Gowanda’s historic Hollywood Theater. Hollywood Happening is publicized as a weekend full of good times, good music, good food, good drink and special events.

We rode to Gowanda via Dunkirk and Silver Creek. We made two stops along the way. Our first stop was at a pull off along Route 5 just before Silver Creek, NY.

Our second stop was for lunch at Aunt Millie’s Family Restaurant, where we enjoyed Cobb Salad (Bob) and BBQ Chicken Finger and French fry lunches. We shared a slice of homemade peanut butter pie for dessert.

Upon reaching Gowanda and after parking the motorcycle, we proceeded to the Main Stage behind the theater. A local rock band, Turbulence, was performing.

We listened to three songs.  The band was good, especially as it performed the Beatles song “Come Together”.

We checked out the merchandise for sale tents.

Bob had his boots shined at one merchandise tent.
The boots looked almost new, after the shine.

We were walking up Main Street, when I heard someone call out to me.  It was our friend, Susan, who called out as she and Dave arrived on their motorcycle.  We watched a few minutes of a BMX Bike Show and walked the streets of Gowanda with Susan and Dave, admiring the many motorcycles.

This is one of several photographs that I took of the BXM bike show.

There were many motorcycles to admire.

Bob and I left Gowanda around 4:00 pm, returning home around 6:00 pm.  Susan and Dave stayed behind to check out the merchandise tents.  They also hoped to visit with a friend who lives in the area.

Memorial Day Ride

We went for a short motorcycle ride with our friends, Susan and Dave, on the morning of May 26 (Memorial Day).  We met at 8:00 am at a local fuel station and rode to Findley Lake, NY.  The purpose of riding to Findley Lake was to see that village’s Main Street Memorial Day parade.

We would have watched the parade in our hometown of Warren, PA; however, Warren doesn’t have a Memorial Day parade.

After the parade, we rode into Jamestown.  We stopped at Tim Horton for coffee/iced tea and donuts.  We carried our Timmy purchases across the street, to Riverwalk Park.  After consuming our purchases, we went for a short walk along Chadakoin River.

Located at the base of this sculpture is a marker that reads: “Before white men came to this area the Indians blazed a trail between Lake Erie and Lake Chautauqua over which they, early explorers and settlers, portaged their canoes. At the Chadakoin River rapids the canoe was portaged again. Here is where the explorers rested and started a settlement which is now the City of Jamestown.”

After our walk in the park, we rode back to Warren.  We returned home around 12:30 pm.
