Our Outer Banks Vacation: Day 1
As I stated in yesterday’s blog post we arrived at our beach house, A Whale’s Head Inn in Nags Head, North Carolina, on Saturday, September 15th, around 3:15 PM. We were a little early, as check in wasn’t until 4:00 PM. We weren’t the only ones to arrive early. Jackie and her daughter, Tami, had arrived about 45 minutes earlier. When Bob and I arrived, Jackie and Tami were sitting on the mid level covered porch enjoying the view across the sound.
Throughout the afternoon and evening, and the next day, others arrived with whom we would be sharing the beach house. All total, 14 of us spent a week together at the beach house: Denise and Al, Corky and Jean, Debbie and Ed, Jackie, Tami, Jackie and Brent, Bob and I and Stephanie and Jeff. The majority of those with whom we shared the beach house are from Pennsylvania (Warren, Sheffield and Kane). Two couples are from Virginia Beach, Virginia. Ten of those with whom we shared the beach house are related. Bob and I and another couple are friends of those who are related. Denise made arrangements for the beach house and organized the food and meals for each day. Denise, you did a GREAT job!
A couple hours after we arrived at the beach house, Bob and I went for a walk on the beach.

Bob standing in the ocean
See those waves behind Bob? I wanted to take a picture of one of those waves coming in, from a low perspective and as horizontal to the shoreline as I could get without physically being in the water. I sat down in the sand and began composing the scene in my viewfinder. My concentration was to the right, and I was unaware of what was happening in front of me or to the left. All of a sudden one of the waves completely engulfed me! Bob became aware of the situation, when he heard me scream. He looked over and saw me plopped down in the wet sand. I got up before he could ready his camera for a picture. Bob says the look of surprise on my face was priceless. Thankfully my camera remained dry!

This was our first sunset, as viewed from the sound-side sun deck.
Later in the evening, while sitting on the mid level covered porch, I was rewarded by this sight.

Deer on Sand Dunes
I am happy that I saw the deer on our first night at the beach house, as I didn’t see them again the remainder of our stay!
