Ride to Linesville Spillway

We spent the morning and part of the afternoon of Friday, July 3, riding. We ate breakfast at the Perkins Restaurant here in Warren. We were on our way to Linesville, PA shortly before 9:00 am.

We made a couple photo stops en route Linesville. We stopped in Spartansburg, PA.

Clear Lake in Spartansburg, PA

As we were parking in Spartansburg, the first thing I noticed was this little horse and small Amish buggy.  The building in the background is the Dutch Treat Restaurant.  We have eaten in this restaurant a couple times.  The food is plentiful and tastes great!

From Spartansburg, we rode to Conneaut Lake, PA.  We stopped at Ice House Park, where there is a very nice view of the lake and boats.

Conneaut Lake

My intention was to walk the length of Ice House Park and take a few pictures of Conneaut Lake from different perspectives.  Two dogs, though, caught and held my attention soon after we arrived.

What a pretty dog!

I discovered that this dog jumped one time from the dock into the water.  The jump frightened the dog, and it will no longer jump off the dock into the water.

On the other hand, the dog’s companion had no fear of jumping off the dock into the water!

The dog retrieved a toy that was thrown into the water.

The dog brought the toy to land.

The white dog has no fear of water, only fears jumping into the water from the dock!

I enjoyed very much watching these two dogs play with each other!

From Conneaut Lake we rode to Linesville Spillway at the Pymatuning Reservoir, where it is said ducks walk on the fish.  We saw lots and lots of carp and geese and a few ducks.

From Linesville, we began our ride back home. We stopped for lunch at Hoss’s Steak and Seahouse in Meadville, PA and made a fuel stop in Titusville, PA.  We returned home around 3:00 pm. The ride wore us out. We napped for about 3 hours!

A 175-Mile Round Trip Drive for Lunch

Bob and I went for a drive today.  We drove to Meadville, PA by way of Erie.  Our initial plan was to go to Erie, perhaps to Presque Isle State Park.  We would get lunch in Erie and then come back home.  We decided to bypass Erie and take Rt. 79 to Volant, PA, with a stop at the Iron Bridge Inn for lunch.  We didn’t quite make it to the Iron Bridge Inn or Volant, though.  We saw a sign for Hoss’s, while on Rt. 79.  It was 12:30 pm, and we were hungry.  We swerved off Rt. 79 and ate lunch in Meadville at Hoss’s Steak and Sea House Restaurant.  Our change in plans was probably good, as it would have cost more money to eat lunch at the Iron Bridge Inn.  Undoubtedly I would have found something to buy at the Volant Village Shops,  and Bob may have purchased  a bottle of wine at Volant Mill Winery.  After lunch at Hoss’s, we drove through Spartansburg and Corry on our way back home.  All total we drove 175 miles, round trip, for lunch.

Not really 🙂  We didn’t drive 175 miles just for lunch.  Bob and I will be traveling later this year.  The plan is for Bob to ride the motorcycle and for me to drive the car.  I wouldn’t do well riding the motorcycle on a trip that would cover more than 1,200 miles.  Bob has done most of the driving, when we travel, for the almost 15 years that we have been married.   Today’s drive was to build up my driving stamina.  I will continue to do the driving on other day trips, until we leave on vacation.

Besides stopping for lunch we made one other stop during today’s drive.  On our way home, we stopped at Clear Lake Park in Spartansburg.  Clear Lake Park is set back from Main Street. The park provides a picturesque view of Clear Lake, as well as that of Clear Lake Dam.

Clear Lake Park Sign

I took this photograph in July 2009, during another visit to Spartansburg.  The flowers were so much prettier during that visit than they were today.  So, I decided to show you this picture of the bridge crossing over Clear Lake rather than one I could have taken today.

There was not much water falling over Clear Lake Dam today so, again, here is a picture that I took from our July 2009 visit.

I got down on my knee to take this picture.
I like the view from that perspective.

Clear Lake

We made it home in perfect timing.  I do not care to drive in the rain.  We parked the car in the garage and walked into the house.  Within moments it began to rain.  The rain didn’t last long, but still I would not have enjoyed driving in it!

Perfect Weather for a Motorcycle Ride (or Two)

We couldn’t have asked for a nicer weekend to go for a ride on the motorcycle. Saturday’s weather was sunny and warm. The sky was blue without a cloud in view. Sunday’s weather was a carbon copy of Saturday’s weather, except that it was warmer. We went for two motorcycle rides this weekend, riding approximately 315 miles over the two-day period.

On Saturday we rode with our friends, Susan and Dave, to Linesville, PA. En route Linesville, we stopped at Clear Lake Park in Spartansburg.

We rode a bit farther and stopped at Ice House Park in Conneaut Lake.

I took this photograph in July 2009, when Bob and I made a similar ride as we did on Saturday.

I think we were at Conneaut Lake all of 10 minutes. We stopped there to discuss where to eat lunch. Instead of turning the key off, Bob hit the kill switch. When you use the kill switch to turn off the motorcycle, the lights stay on. When we were ready to depart for Linesville, where we decided to eat lunch, the motorcycle wouldn’t start. Dave and Bob pushed the motorcycle up an incline. Bob coasted the motorcycle down the hill; it started right up. We didn’t have any more problems with the motorcycle rest of the day. We rode the 8-10 miles to Linesville and ate lunch at Rebecca’s Family Restaurant. Our meals were good, and we enjoyed an amicable chat. We began our ride at 12:30 PM. We rode 170 miles and returned home around 8:00 PM.

On Sunday we rode with our friends, Susan and Dave and Shelly and Bob, to Erie, PA, where we stopped to see the Vietnam Moving Wall.

The Vietnam Moving Wall was at the First Assembly of God Church on Oliver Road in Erie, PA.

Vietnam Moving Wall

After seeing the Moving Wall we ate lunch at Steak ‘n Shake in Erie. After lunch we began our ride home. We took Rt. 20 out of Erie. We made a brief stop at North East, where I asked a young man to take a photograph of the six of us.

Gibson Park in North East

From North East we rode Rt. 5 along Lake Erie to Westfield, NY. We made one more stop before returning home. We stopped at Tim Horton’s in Jamestown, NY. We began our ride around 10:00 AM. We rode rode 145 miles and returned home around 7:00 PM.

I hope that we have a few more weekends like this before the end of the riding season!
