Ohio Day Trip: Chagrin Falls

Bob and I went on a day trip to Ohio this past Saturday (April 6).  We saw three waterfalls, a covered bridge and a few birds.  In my previous blog posts I shared photographs of Brandywine Falls, the Everett Road Covered Bridge, and the Beaver Marsh and heron rookery — all three of which are located in Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

After photographing the Great Blue Heron at the rookery, we left Cuyahoga Valley National Park and ate lunch at a nearby Texas Roadhouse.  We both enjoyed steak entrees.  After lunch we drove to the picturesque village of Chagrin Falls, which was about a 30-minute drive from Cuyahoga Valley National Park.  The second waterfall that we saw during our day trip was right in the middle of Chagrin Falls.

There are two vantage points from which to see the Chagrin Falls waterfall.  A boardwalk leads down to an observation platform from each vantage point.

From the first vantage point you can see the boardwalk for the second vantage point (opposite side).

In addition to viewing Chagrin Falls from the observation platform of the first vantage point, we ventured down to the river bed for another prospective.

The next photograph was taken from the second vantage point.

This is the second time that we have visited this waterfall.  Our first visit was in early August last year.  There hadn’t been much rainfall, so we saw very little falling water during that visit.  Provided below is a photograph from our August 2012 visit.  Notice the big change in water volume between that visit and our visit this past Saturday!

After looking at the waterfall, we climbed back up to Main Street.  We went inside the Popcorn Shop, where Bob enjoyed a cup of coffee and I enjoyed a Vanilla Custard cone.   Bob said that the coffee was good.  The Vanilla Custard cone was so rich and creamy; delicious!.

There was one more thing about Chagrin Falls that we liked … MOTORCYCLES!

I mentioned to Bob that we should ride to Chagrin Falls on the motorcycle one day.  He agreed.

Brett Fallon Dances

Oh, yes, Brett Fallon dances .. and dances and dances!  I have seen Brett dance in person at festivals and in parades.  I have seen videos of Brett dancing.  Brett has so much energy and breathes the essence of himself into each and every dance.

The other day I saw a video of Brett dancing that took my breath away and placed a feeling of joy deep in my heart.

What an emotion-packed dance.  Well done, Brett Fallon!

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Bob and I spent the weekend of St. Patrick’s Day in Erie, PA.  The main event of the weekend was Erie’s 36th annual St. Patrick’s Day parade.

At approximately 1:00 pm, in preparation for the parade, State Street at W 10th Street was barricaded to prevent the flow of traffic.

The parade commenced at 2:00 pm.  All photographs in the slideshow that follows were taken from the comfort of our hotel room at the Avalon Hotel.   Our fifth floor room offered a good view of the State Street / W 10th Street intersection.

Bob and I enjoyed the parade very much.  It was the first time that either Bob or I had watched a St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Babysitting the Twins

I had an opportunity today to watch our twin granddaughters for a couple hours, while their mommy went grocery shopping and visited her newborn niece.   Grandma gave the girls several rides in a cardboard box;  we played with toys; and Grandma laughed while the girls jumped up and down and all around in their doorway jumpers.

Thank you, Bob, for editing the video for me!  You did a great job with the sound effects.

Grandma, Harper and June liked watching this yahoo video, too, about Little Red.

We watched this video three times, all eyes glued to Grandma’s tiny iPhone screen.

Anticipation

Tim Hortons’ grand opening in my hometown was on Tuesday, January 18. We have been anticipating the arrival of Tim Hortons in Warren for sometime now. Bob was one of the first people to go to our new Tim Horton. He was in the drive-up line, the second in line, ready for the store’s 6:00 AM opening. Bob said there were a dozen or so patrons at the front door waiting for the store to open. Bob ordered a medium black coffee in his refill cup, a second medium black coffee for a friend at work, and a cheddar cheese bagel. Bob went to Tim Horton AGAIN after work. He stopped there on his way home from work. He ordered another medium black coffee (refill) and a maple-dipped donut.

Today I viewed a video posted on Facebook about Tim Hortons grand opening. The video is so GREAT that I just had to share it with you!
